Democritus 440 BCE
Democritus came up with the atom. He said that if you kept cutting someting into smaller portions that you would eventually end up with a particle that could not be divided anymore. He said that all atoms are small, hard particles. He thought that all atoms were made of a single material formed into different shapes and sizes. -
