    Pope Clement V was facing a lot of violence. Therefore, he is known for moving the papacy from Vatican to Avignon, France. This angered people so the people said they would elect a new Pope to live in the Vatican.

    This was a time period where several Popes decided to live in Avignon, France rather than in Rome, Italy, like where all of the previous Popes have lived.

    Back to Rome

    The Avignon Pope returned to Italy and later died. A new pope was elected and demanded the papacy be moved back to Rome.

    End of the Great Schism

    Antipopes were elected during the Great Schism and this was not fixed and resolved until later.
