    In March of 1960 a devastating event for the United States occured called the Bay of Pigs. The Bay of Pigs was when President Eisenhower gave permission to the CIA to invade Cuba with some Cuban exiles to overthrow Castro. President Roosevelt grudgingly approved. This didn't really affect relations with the Soviets because they did not know.

    About 1500 Cuban exiles were sent to Cuba with help from the U.S. military. When they landed nothing worked out and the entire mission was gigantic fail. Nothing went as planned and they ended up looking foolish, most of the exiles were killed others captured. It ended up costing the U.S. 53 million dollars in supplies to get the imprisoned exiles released. This affected the U.S. relationship with Russia in the way that the Soviets laughed at us and thought we were pathetic.
