Bethany surfed her in first real competition at Rell Sunn Menehune Surfing Cahmpionships in Oahu, Hawaii. -

Bethanys Attack
Bethany was attacked by a shark, left her arm traumatically amputate to shoulder. -

Bethany returned to surfing with only one arm. -

Bethany received International TV, magazine, newspaper recognition. Bethanys Dad created a handle to go on her surfboard to help with duckdiving. -
Awardes she got
Bethany received the ESPY "Best Comeback Athlete" award form ESPN. Honoree recipient of the Al Neuharth Free Spirit Award. Featured in top US TV shows and Internaitional magazines and newspapers. The surf Industry Manufacturers Association (SIMA) awarded Bethany a special "Wahine O Ke Kai" Award, which in Hawaiian means " Woman of the Sea". -
Age 14
Bethany had the best seller autobiography SOUL SURFER released in 2004 by MTV Pocket Books and Simon and Schuster. European book tour, and Scholastic evens. Visited wouned US Soilders in Germany. -

35th Annual Gospel Music Awards Bethany presented an award. The MTV Teen Choice Awards received special awrd for "Courage". -

Bethany visited Thailand with World Vision and brought orphans back to the ocean for the first time since Tsunami, and promoted tourism. -

Bethany had 2 back-to-back trips to the Mentawais, Indonesia- one was a Rip Curl Girls Search surf trip and the other was Walking on Water for the filimg of their surf movie and Bethany's documentary. She also had Mexico Missions trip with her church youth group. She went on a family surf trip to Samoa. Her book "Soul Surfer Devotions" was published. -

Bethany had a Father-Daughter surf trip to the Mentawais, Indonesia. She released a personal documentary "Heart of a Soul Surfer," which toured film festivals around the world. -
