    PERSON: My Mom

My mom is one of my biggest role models. She is honestly the most caring and selfless person I know. She does pretty much everything for everyone else and leaves very little time for herself. Although she's not perfect, she has made me want to be a better person by demonstrating acts of kindness to everyone around her. My mom has taught me how to be a leader through your actions and to reflect God's image.

    PERSON: My Dad

My dad has influenced me as a leader because if there's one thing he's taught me my whole life, it is to think independently and do things myself. My dad is the opposite of an overprotective parent - he believes in learning to do things myself. It has led me to be more confident in things such as finding my way around using google maps. He is also the boss of his own company, so he possesses leadership skills. Through his example, I've learned to be more confident and a better leader.
  • EVENT: Birth

I was born! This impacted me because I came into the world, created by God in his image. :)

    PERSON: My brother

Even though my younger brother Adam isn't a person in a leadership position, he's impacted my life significantly. Having a younger brother really trained my patience and my ability to remain calm when he was being super annoying. He helped me learn to ignore people when they're just being annoying because they want attention. He's helped me remain calm when inside I'm so angry and frustrated, because he wants to get a reaction from me.
  • EVENT: ICS

I started going to ICS at age 5 (P1) and the experience has definitely shaped me as a person and a leader, because I spent a huge chunk of my time at ICS. The teachers and people I've met here have influenced me to be who I am today. Also, ICS has shaped me as a Christ-centered leader by teaching me about the Bible from a young age.

    EVENT: Piano

Playing the piano has been a big part of my life since an early age. It has taught me so much about determination and practice. I've struggled with the motivation to practice and with a failed exam. After I failed my 6th grade exam, I was devastated and didn't want to continue. However, my teacher convinced me to continue and I ended up getting distinction for my second 6th grade exam. Piano taught me to never give up and that practice is important.

    PERSON: My Piano Teacher

My piano teacher was one of my role models growing up because I attended his weekly piano lessons since I was young. He taught me patience because I constantly messed up and procrastinated practicing. He also taught me how to lead other students by his teaching me.
  • EVENT: Church at Wu Kai Sha

My parents brought me to a church in Wu Kai Sha when I was very young (I don't remember exactly when it was). It was a Chinese church and truthfully I didn't understand half of what the pastors and teachers were saying. I didn't really bond with anyone there because everyone spoke Cantonese and I couldn't really communicate with them. However, it is the first church I remember going to and did teach me lessons about the Bible.

    PERSON: My Friend

Angela, who has been my friend since grade 2, might not seem like a natural leader on the outside because she's pretty quiet, but people who are close to her know that she's an outstanding person and Christian. She is very responsible and kind, never getting angry and rarely getting annoyed at people. She encourages me to be a better person and Christian, even doing devotions with me through the Bible app sometimes. She's shown me what being a quiet leader looks like.
  • PERSON: My 4th Grade Teacher

Mrs. Tang was my teacher in 4th grade. She was an amazing, compassionate teacher. She would share stories about her life, including the passing of her grandfather, which I still remember clearly to this day. She was such a caring teacher and loved all her students, and she made me want to show the same love to everyone around me.

    PERSON: My Chinese Tutor

I've had the same Chinese tutor since like the second grade. She not only keeps me from failing Chinese, but also gives me advice about life. Sometimes our lessons will drift from the topic to talking about things in life, and she's taught me lessons about studying, making the most of my life, and just given me advice in general. She is also patient with all her students and doesn't yell at me even when I've done poorly, and has taught me to show the same patience through her example.
  • EVENT: Church at Sai Ying Pun

After I stopped going to the church in Wu Kai Sha, one of my close friends invited me to their church, so I decided to go. The people there were really nice and supportive, and they cared a lot about worshipping God. It was awesome to see the enthusiasm they put into worship. However, that was also a Cantonese church so I still didn't get a lot of what was happening.
  • PERSON: My Church Leader

When I was attending church at Sai Ying Pun, I had a church leader, and his name was Amos. Amos was a very dedicated Christian, and he cared about all of the people in his group a lot. He encouraged us to pray to God and also prayed for us all the time. Amos helped me grow as a Christ-centered leader by showing us an example of that.
  • PERSON: My 8th Grade Teacher

Ms. Waymire is probably the most enthusiastic, open people I've ever known. She was my face group teacher in 8th grade and cares about how every one of her students is doing, wanting us all to succeed in life. She encouraged me to participate in more activities and praised me when I got full marks on a test. She demonstrated what it's like to be a leader who cares about all of their followers.
  • EVENT: Church at Heng On

The church at Sai Ying Pun was really far and inconvenient - it took me an hour of travel just to get there every Sunday. So I decided to go to another friend's church in Heng On, which was much closer to where I lived at the time. Many people from ICS go to this church, so it was half taught in English. Going to this church impacted me because I got to know people in different grades and I understood and enjoyed the sermons given.

    PERSON: My Roots Group Leader

Mrs. Dove became my roots group leader when I started high school as a freshman. Although she couldn't relate to that much of our conversation because she was more fluent in Chinese, she demonstrated such a passion for loving Christ. Although students talked behind her back about her, she was still very kind to them and prayed for them to seek Christ. She's a great roots group leader because she reflects Christ in all her actions and tries to be a better Christian and person every day.
  • EVENT: Moving to North Point

Last April, my family moved from Wu Kai Sha to North Point. This was a big change in our lives. This impacted me because living in North Point isn't as expensive as other places in Hong Kong, and it's also more crowded. It made me realize that I like living in more crowded and urban areas, and this place feels more like Hong Kong than Wu Kai Sha. I realized that I would miss Hong Kong a lot if I ever moved.
  • EVENT: Pneumonia

Last summer, I started out having the common flu, which turned into a really bad cough. After multiple trips to the doctor, my doctor diagnosed me with walking pneumonia, which is like a less severe type of pneumonia. My doctor prescribed medicine for me and had me take x-rays, and in less than half a month I recovered. This made me consider a career in medicine because I want to help others the same way my doctor helped me overcome my disease.
  • EVENT: Protests

The protests in Hong Kong affected me because it hurt to see the people in my city so scared and lost. I wasn't on either side and didn't do any protesting, but the news really affected my mental state and I could see that it was doing the same to others. It made realize I want to fight for peace in the world so that this won't happen again. It also helped me realize how important having the right intentions is for a leader, because a leader can impact many people.
  • EVENT: Coronavirus

The outbreak of coronavirus didn't seem like a big deal to me, it just impacted me because I can't go to school. But after reading multiple articles about how the coronavirus affected people living in Wuhan, I realized how brutal it was. It made me want to help people in Wuhan who didn't have hospital beds although they were very sick. It made me realize how natural events can completely change someone's life. It made me want to be a better leader so I can encourage others to help those in need.
