    Evolution of Computers

This timeline represents the evolution of computers from1946 to 1982
  • Second generation of computers.

It was called a transistor computer.
1959 -1965.It transistors instead of vaccum tubes. They were cheaper, consumed less power and more compact in size.
  • Third generation of computer.

It used integrated circuits in place of transistors.
    1965 to 1971
A single IC has many transistors, resistors, capacitors.Along with the associated circuitry. It is small in size reliable and efficient.
  • Fouth generation of computers.

These computers use the VLSI technology or the Very Large Scale Integrated circuits technology.1971 to 1980 They are also known as microprocessors.Intel was the first company to develop microprocessors.
  • Fifth generation of computers.

It was an initiative by Japan' s Ministry of International Trade and Ind - ustry .It began in 1982.It was created using massively parallel computing and logical programming.
