    The Establishment of the UN in San Francisco
    In 1945 delegates of 50 countries met in San Francisco at the United Nations Conference. Those delegates deliberated on the basis of proposals worked out by the representatives of China, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom and the United States.
  • The Yalta Conference

    The Yalta Conference
    Joseph Stalin, FDR, and Winstin Churchill met once again in Yalta in Crimea. FDR and Churchill tried to restrict any postwar conflict. Stalin had most of his troops in eastern Europe at the time. They agreed on free eletions in most of Europe.

    The Prime ministers met again talking about finalizing the free elections. The conference also discussed post war conflicts and how to prevent them they also touched on peace treaties in the affected countries.

However, the famous list of 205 known State Department Communists turned out to be the names of people who were still employed by the government, even though they had been accused of disloyalty under Truman's loyalty program.   • Russians Launch the Sputnik

    The launching of Sputnik I by the Soviet Union began the "space war" with the United States. It was the first artifial satellite that was put in to the Earth's orbit.
