    Emperor Constantine I rebuilt the Greek city of Byzantium and then renamed it to Constantinople, and then made it into the capital of the empire. Constantinople also became a huge trade route as well.

    Justinian becomes emperor and the Nika riot takes place. The Nika revolt was a riot that took place for a week that involved the rioters burning down some of the city, trying to overthrow Justinian, and the killing of a lot of people.

    General Belisarius

    General Belisarius was a general that ended the NIka Revolt and helped conquer a lot of land for the Byzantine empire. He conquered the Persians, the Vandals of Africa, won some victories against the Ostrogoths in Italy and conquered Sicily, then Naples, then Rome, and finally Ravenna. Then in 540 AD he goes against the Ostrogoths again in Italy.

    Hagia Sophia
    After the Nika revolt in 532 AD Justinian rebuilt and improved the construction of the Hagia Sophia. The Hagia Sophia was then a church used to worship the Wisdom of God.

    Emperor Basil II

    Emperor Basil II was the emperor of Byzantine at the time and also conquered Bulgaria. He conquered a lot of important lands in Bulgaria and in 1014 the Byzantines won the battle of Kleidion which was the turning point for the Byzantine army. In 1018 Ivan Vladislav died and since there was no king of Bulgaria they chose to surrender to the Emperor Basil II. Emperor Basil II died in 1025.

    The Seljuk Turks had migrated from Central Asia to the Middle East and converted to Islam. Then they started to take over Byzantine territory in the Asia Minor also taking over the Holy Lands. Byzantine was also facing attacks from other civilizations as well at the time but the Turks were one of the greatest threats.
