    Canada on the World Stage since 1945
    From 1945-1989 Canada invented, and served in many Peacekeeping missions. The most popular one was the Suez Crisis peacekeeping mission. In 1994, U.S., Canada, and Mexico create the North American Free Trade Agreement. This was to control tariffs for easier and better trade relations. In 2005, Canada sent troops to help support UN in Afghanistan. These three events show Canada's involvement on the world stage over time.

    United Nations Committees
    Recently, Canada has been very involved in the UN. On December 28th 1945, the UN committee created the world bank. It created healthy trade globally. In 1995, Canada took the biggest part in creating the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group. It is used to help commonwealth countries to examine threats to democracy. This shows that overtime Canada has become more involved since 1945

    In 2010, Canada didn't get a seat. It was the first time Canada didn't win a seat for the UN Security Council. In 2013, Stephen Harper announced Canada didn't want a spot spot in the 2014 election. this decision was a sign Canada was becoming less dependent on multinational organizations.     Started when North Korean armed forces invaded South Korea. 26,791 Canadian military personnel served in the Korean War. South Korea helped by the UN and North Korea being helped by the Soviet Union.

    End of the Korean War
    The war’s combat phase lasted until an armistice was signed 27 July 1953. This means it has never actually ended. The last Canadian soldiers left Korea in 1957. Took the lives of 516 Canadians and wounding more than 1,200.

    Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser announced the nationalization of the Suez Canal Company. A British-French company that operated the Suez Canal. NATO attempted to broker a diplomatic settlement for the British-French-Egyptian dispute.

    Lester Pearson the Diplomat
    Lester Pearson was a diplomat in Canada for some time. In 1956, as the foreign minister, he represented Canada to come up with the peacekeeping mission. In 1957, Lester Pearson won a Nobel Peace Prize for the Suez Crisis peacekeeping mission. He also represented Canada as the Prime Minister from 1963 to 1968.

    Canada, UN Peacekeeping, and the Suez Crisis
    Canada has the largest role of all countries in peacekeeping. The first peacekeeping mission was started on October 29th, 1956. Lester B Pearson, the Canadian foreign minister at the time, came up with the idea of a peacekeeping mission to solve the Suez Crisis. Canada was considered a middle-power and a good ally during the cold war for this one event. As 2006, Canada ranks 55th as a UN peacekeeping nation. Sine 1956, Canada has sent over 120,000 troops as part of UN peacekeeping missions.

    After France, Britain, and Israel planned to attack without informing the US, Canada, and other NATO allies, Mr. Lester B. Pearson, with the UN, came up with the UN’s first, large-scale peacekeeping force.

    The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) is the United States and Canada organization that warns us of any attack over the North Pole. Includes the detection, validation, and warning of attack against North America whether by aircraft, missiles, or space vehicles, through mutual support arrangements with other commands. Started Because of the threat of Soviet Bombers attack on North America.
