Career path

  • Level 3 course in media makeup

Level 3 course in media makeup
Complete my Level 3 course in Media Makeup to achieve my 90 credit extended diploma at the end of my second year. By gaining this qualification it will give me the best start in the industry as through college there are many networking opportunities to expand my contacts and by completing the course it means I will be able to develop my portfolio and learn new skills and develop my techniques to ensure I work to the best of my ability so I am ready to start working in the industry when I leave.
  • Working in a salon

    Working in a salon
Whilst studying at college and university, I will be working in a salon as a self employed makeup artist. This will allow me to expand my client base and make contacts with my work colleagues as they all work within different sectors in the industry such as beauty therapy and hairdressing. In the salon I do makeup and hair ups so every time I have clients, this means I have more to add to my portfolio and also over the years working here, I will be able to show my progression.
  • Freelancing

    Freelancing
Whilst completing my courses at college and university and working at the salon, i would also like to do makeup on a freelance basis. Hopefully in the next few years i will be driving so i could go mobile, meaning i could travel to different areas, expanding my client base. I would have to take into account travel costs and also pay for public liability insurance which is offered by various companies and is offered generally from around £50 per year.
  • Degree in Fashion Makeup

    Degree in Fashion Makeup
I would like to complete a degree course in fashion makeup at university as this is the sector of the industry that I think suits my makeup ability most and I enjoy creating this style of makeup looks. The courses I have looked at are generally 3/4 year courses and within this time at university it would help me to gain an extensive knowledge of this type of makeup and enable me to develop a professional portfolio to make my services more appealing to clients and make me stand out to employers.
  • Nail Course

    Nail Course
Salon services offer a beginners nail course in gel or acrylics for £200 (http://www.salon-services.com/nails-for-beginners-course-gel-or-acrylic/). This would allow me to expand my services and gain more clients as people want their nails doing frequently and it is a popular service. I would like to complete a course in nails once i have completed my college and university courses as this will help me to gain another qualification on top of my extended diploma and degree.
  • Eyebrow Shaping course

    Eyebrow Shaping course
Capital hair and beauty offer a one day course in eyebrow threading and shaping for £99 (http://www.capitalhairandbeauty.co.uk/training/eyebrow-eyelash-courses/eyebrow-threading-shaping-course.html). This would allow me to expand my services and gain more clients as people may want their brows doing before their makeup. I want to complete a course in eyebrows once i have completed my college and university courses.
  • Spray tanning course

    Spray tanning course
Sienna X offer spray tanning courses from Level 1 to Level 3 so i would have to start of at Level 1 which costs £95, then Level 2 (£47.50) and Level 3 (£99). This would mean after these 3 courses i would be fully and professionally trained and qualified in spray tanning, yet again adding to the services i can offer my clients. • SFX course

    SFX course
Shaune Harrison Makeup Academy offer a 6 week course in SFX for £5,600 in which i would learn SFX skills and also make film quality prosthetics (http://shauneharrisonacademy.com/Courses/ProstheticAndMakeUpSFX). Although this isn't the sector of the industry i would prefer to work in, completing a professional course would widen my job opportunities in the future.
  • Working on productions

    Working on productions
Hopefully by gaining extra qualifications and experience through different courses, i will eventually be able to work on various productions, whether it be small or large scale, which would help me to network with others in the industry whilst gaining industry experience.
