Causes of The American Revolution

  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    1754-1763 The war was fought over who would control North America. The Treaty of Paris was signed to end the war . The French lost all land in America and Great Britain claimed all the land east of the Mississippi.
  • Proclamation of 1763

     Proclamation of 1763
    This was the proclamation was issued by King George lll. It was created to forbid colonists from settling West of Appalachian Mountain to create peace between settlers and the Indians.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    This act passed by Parliament put taxes on molasse and sugar. It was a modified version of the Sugar and Molasses Act which was about to expire.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    This act required all colonists to buy special taxed stamps for any paper product. This included all the newspapers, contracts, letters, wills etc.
  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
    This act forced colonists to house, feed, clothe, and provide for British soldiers.
  • Boston Masscre

    Boston Masscre
    A group of Colonists were angry at Parliment for the heavy taxes they were forced to pay. The colonists threw snowballs and shouted at Britsish soldiers causing them to fire their guns. 5 died and 6 were wounded.
  • Battle of Alamance

    Battle of Alamance
    Regulators marched and gathered at Alamance creek. The battle lasted for a couple of hours. The regulators had no commander, or organization. They ran out of ammunition and had to retreat. At least 20 people were killed and 150 were wounded.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    A law passed by parliament intended to help the British East India Company. The act lowered the price of tea creating a monopoly for Britain. Colonists were forced to pay high taxes and began to boycott British tea.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    A group of colonists called the Sons Of Liberty tried to stop tea from being unloaded in the colonies. They refused to give ships the papers to return to England. Then a group of colonists disguised as native Americans boarded a ship and dumped all the tea into the harbor. They destroyed thousands of dollars worth of tea.
  • The Intolerable Acts

    The Intolerable Acts
    The intolerable acts were a group of acts passed by Britain to punish the colonies for the Boston Tea Party and to prove to the colonists that they had power over them.These acts lead to the first meeting of the Continental Congress.
  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    Congress demanded an end to the Intolerable Acts and the British would not retreat. This caused the fighting to began. This fight was the start of the American Revolution and is known as the "Shot heard around the world" 300 people were killed or wounded
