    The Missouri Compromise
    the Missouri Compromise was created to help stop debates in congress about territory. The compromise was where two new states were added to the union. These two states were Maine as a free state and Missouri as a slave state. This was able to calm the debates in congress for a time but the new land added from the Mexican-American war. The event impacted history by allowing us to have two new states and took place in the united states.
  • Wilmot Proviso

    Wilmot Proviso
    The Wilmot Proviso was proposed to Congress by little known Democratic Senator Wilmot. This proposal stated that all states won by the aftermath of the Mexican-American War would be admitted into the union as free states. This split the mostly southern congress and was not passed by congress but did pass in the House of Representatives.

    Senator Henry Clay introduced the Compromise of 1850 on January 29, 1850. This compromise was made because California would like to enter the Union as a free state, but this got Congress mad. This state will lob-side the free states and slave states. The Compromise of 1850 was introduced in Missouri.

    The Fugitive Slave Act involved All the Nation. This act made a law so that if northerners saw any African-Americans they have to take them down to the South. If a Northerner does not he can get fined thousands and/or jail. This gave more slaves to the South and made the North extremely angry. This event took place in the North, but eventually the South got impacted.

    The novel Uncle Tom's Cabin was an important part in the abolitionist movement. The novel was created by Harriet Beecher-Stowe, and helped spread the abolitionist mentality throughout the north. This novel helped people realize the horrors of slavery and the abuse slaves endured. When it was published it caused outrage in the south. Due to this many northerners wanted there to be an end to slavery, as the south tried to defend themselves and call everything in the book fake.

    Bleeding Kansas is a term used to describe the violence that happened in Kansas. Bleeding Kansas involved people from Kansas and Nebraska. These actions changed the voting laws in the United States so that people can only vote where they live. This event took place in Kansas.
  • Dred Scott Case

    Dred Scott Case
    Dred Scott was a slave who argued that he is a slave in a free state. His dead owner lived in a territory and a free northern state. Dred Scott believed that since his owner is dead and he lives in a territory not a southern state that he should be free. The Supreme Court decided that the Constitution applied to people and blacks were not considered as a person so he could not be a residence in any state but only property and still was property and could not be taken away without process of law.

    Lincoln Douglas Debates
    Abraham Lincoln was a little known lawyer who was the Republican's Presidential Nominee while the Democratic Nominee was Senator Stephen Douglas. They were both neck in neck for the popular vote, but Abraham Lincoln won, Lincoln also won the electoral votes. Eventually Douglas lost and Lincoln became president. They campaigned from August 21, 1858 to October 15, 1858.

    John Brown's raid on Harper's Ferry was an effort by white abolitionist John Brown to initiate an armed slave revolt in taking over a United States arsenal at Harper's Ferry, Virginia.
  • Lincoln's Election of 1860

    Lincoln's Election of 1860
    Abraham Lincoln was one of four nominees running for president. He won the Popular and Electoral Votes. His Electoral Votes were more than all the others nominees Electoral Votes combined. He campaigned mostly against Stephen Douglas but came out victorious. A few weeks after Abraham Lincoln was elected, North Carolina and other states succeeded and created the Confederate States of America, this eventually lead to the bloodiest war in American history, The American Civil War.
  • Southern Secession

    Southern Secession
    This event was caused by the election of 1860 and was started when South Carolina repealed the constitution and seceded. Once South Carolina seceded seven other southern states followed. They seceded because they thought that the north was suppressing their voice in congress. this event would eventually lead to the Civil War and the confederate states. When the seven states seceded they sent representatives to Montgomery and elected Jefferson Davis as their president.
