There was a lack of unity in South Carolina so after seceding, many left the country. -
Dred Scott Case
The Dred Scott Case was a case that ended up setting back Civil Rights because it stated that a state couldn't ban slavery and just because a slave had been taken into free land, didn't mean that they could be free. -
John Brown's Raid on Harpers Ferry
Abolitionist John Brown set up a raid to gain control of the Harpers Ferry arsenal so the slaves would revolt but none did and Brown was caught. -
The Election of 1860
The Democrats became split and in an election, Abe Lincoln won and that was bad for the south because they knew he didn't approve of slavery.
