Causes of the Texas Revolution

  • Constitution of 1824

    The constitutional government began in Texas in 1824. It was similar to the United States. 2 Houses of Congress, 4 year terms for the president and a Supreme Court. Catholic is the official religion and the church was supported by the public treasury. This led to a big step to the Independence of Mexico. Due to the unstable government and lacking in adequate leadership, this document was not enforced.
  • Fredonian Rebelion

    This was a dispute between the Edward bothers and the Mexican government. Haden Edward settled 800 families in East Texas.
  • Mier y Teran Report

    He is supposed to observe natural resources. He is also supposed to see the Mexican-Texas boundary of the rivers
  • Guerrero Decree

    He abolished slavery in Mexico then he was named President of Mexico. Abolishing slavery turned out to be a check for American immigration.
  • Law of April 6, 1830

    The Law of April 6, 1832 was made to stop the immigration from the US to Texas. It stopped the introduction of slaves into Mexico and also suspended all empresario contracts in use. Stephen Austin protested to the Mexican officials and president Anastasio Bustamante. Stephen F. Austin was able to convince the Mexican government, but then, like other settlers, he began to distrust the Mexican government. This Law has led to the Anahuac Disturbances of 1832 and indirectly to the battle of Velasco.
  • Contact of Anahuac

    He came from the Trinity river. 6 miles North of Anahuac 19 men held them hostage.
  • Turtle Bayou

    He disagreed with Mexico commander John Davis so he fled. he had fled and crossed Turtle Bayou.
  • Battle of Velasco

    It was the first case blood shed in relations between Texas and Mexico.The Texans fought the Mexicans forces at Anahuac.The Texans estimated between 100-150 troops and the Mexicans estimated between 91-200.The Mexicans were forced to surrender when thy ran out of ammunition.The estimated casualties for the Texans were seven killed and 14 wounded.Mexican casualties had five killed and 16 wounded.After the Mexicans surrendered they were allowed to leave.The prisoners were released after loss.
  • Convention of 1832

    The convention was held after the Anahuac disturbances, Battle of Velasco, the turtle Bayou resolutions. 55 delegates selected Stephen F. Austin.
  • Convention of 1833

    The Con. was met at San Felipe on April 1, 1833;The day Santa Anna took control over Mexico.There were about 56 delegates that attended plus a new delegate from Nacogdoches,Sam Houston.The convention was about the repeal of stopping the immigration from US to TX in the Law of April 6,1830,better Indian defense,judicial reform,better mail service,and sought tariff exemption.The delegates also asked if Coahuila and TX could be split up.Houston prepared a doc to MX Congress.Con. ended on April 13.
  • Stephen F. Austin goes to Mexico City

    Seguin,Miller,and Austin were chosen to present the petitions to the government but since Seguin and Miller were unable to go,Austin had to do it.After inevitable delays,persuaded the government to repeal the Law of April 6,1830,and to promise important reforms in Texas local government.Santa Anna would not approve state government for TX.Austin was arrested due to trying to incite insurrection in TX,and was taken back to Mexico City.He went from prison to prison and was released Dec. 1834.
  • The Consultation

    It was held late October and early November of 1835.It was a debate between the opposing factions that wanted to continue in diplomatic relation with Mexico,led by Stephen F. Austin and the side that wanted independence immediately. Many delegates were not able to attend because of the existing fighting with the Mexican forces in San Antonio and other areas in Texas. There were three Consultation the purpose of war, the power and structure of government, virtues of different leaders.
