    Constitution of 1824
    The Constitution was a Mexican Constitution which resembled the US constitution and also the Spanish Constitution. The Texans did not like this constitution because they were enforcing Catholicism and the Anglo Americans were not represented in the Constitution.

  • Fredonian Rebellion

    Fredonian Rebellion
    The Fredonian Rebellion started with a dispute between the Mexican Government and the Edwards brothers. Haden Edwards was an empresario and if people could not prove ownership in his colony, he forced them to move or pay him for the land. The mexican government took away his land grant and so the Texan citizens and the Mexican Government didn't like each other. The brothers partnered with the Cherokee Indians and started a rebellion against Mexico.

    Mier y Teran was sent to observe the natural resources and the indian's behavior to determine the Mexico-US border. When he came back, he submitted a report that said that he was concerned about Texas gaining it's independence because there was a lot of Anglo settlements and very few Mexican settlements in texas.

    Guerrero Decree
    The Guerrero Decree abolished (got rid of) slavery in the Republic of Mexico. President Guerrero was trying to pass this law to limit immigration to Mexico.
  • Law of April 6, 1830

    Law of April 6, 1830
    The law was designed to limit the amount of immigration from the US to Texas. The Texan citizens were not in agreement with this law, and Stephen F. Austin went to protest the law to the Mexican government. He was able to limit some parts of the law, but not get rid of it all together. The law was not heavily enforced because Stephen F. Austin limited some portions of the law, but slaves were let into Texas anyway.

  • Conflict at Anahuac

    Conflict at Anahuac
    The conflict all started when William B. Travis was arrested at the mouth of the Trinity. So after that the Texans brought 200 men 6 miles north of the prison and they held captive 12 Mexican soldiers. Even after the Mexican general said no when the Texans asked for a prisoner trade the Texans brought a cannon so they had no other choice but to do the trade. The battle was inevitable because the Mexican general could have said yes.

    The Texans were saying that the Mexicans were not following the constitution of 1824 because they arrested Patrick Jack and William Travis (two anglo people) without reason. The Texans said that if the Mexicans went back and followed the 1824 constitution, that the Texans would be loyal to Mexico but if they didn't, the Texans would fight for their independence from Mexico.

    This battle was important because it was the first case of bloodshed between the Texans and the Mexicans. The Texans had 100-150 troop and the Mexicans had 91-200 troops. Texans had 7 dead and 14 wounded while the Mexicans had 5 killed and 16 wounded.

    Five delegates elected Stephen F. Austin president and at the convention Texans wanted extended tariff exemptions, more US immigration, and donated government land for schools The resolutions were never presented to the Mexican government.

    This was another convention similar to the Convention of 1832, and was held close to the other convention because it was the day that Santa Anna took control of Mexico. They proposed new laws and thought about splitting Coahuila and Texas.
