    The Constitution of 1824 was the first constitution created by Mexico, three years after gaining independence from Spain. It was modeled closely after the American Constitution, except for no freedom of religion, and the states having no defined rights.
  • The Fredonian Rebellion

    The Fredonian Rebellion
    Mexican Gov’t. and the Edwards Brothers got into a dispute, which resulted in the Mexican Gov’t removing their contract. The Texans also disliked the Edwards Brothers and agreed with the Mexican Government’s decision.

    Teran’s job was to go to Texas and see how strong the influence of the United States on Texas and the attitude of the settlers. The mission was also for observing the resources, the natives, and the boundaries. He found that immigration and settlement from the U.S. had a great influence on Mexico

    This Decree basically banned slavery. It was made by the Mexican Gov’t to try gain control over Texas back from the Americans. It actually started a battle because the citizens wanted to keep slaves. The decree was never passed in Texas, but it still raised suspicion among the Anglo Texans.

    A passed by the Mexican Gov’t that banned slavery to make Mexico less desirable to American settlers, because they were already outnumbering Mexicans. This law also cancelled incomplete empresario contracts, built more forts, and put taxes on American goods. It created because of the Fredonian Rebellion and the Teran report.
  • Conflict at Anahuac

    Conflict at Anahuac
    A Mexican Col. named Juan Davis Bradburn started collecting taxes on imports, and that made Texans upset. Many Texans refused to pay the tax on goods, and the event snowballed, ending up harming a soldier.
