Causes of the Texas Revolution

  • Constitution of 1824

    Constitution of 1824
    The Mexican Constitution was similar to the United States Constitution, but it was more similar to the Spanish Constitution of 1824. It did not have freedom of religion, but it´s government was similar to United States' government.(It had 2 House of Congress, 4 year terms for the president, and a Supreme Court)
  • Fredonian Rebellion

    Fredonian Rebellion
    It was the dispute between the Edward brothers and the Mexican Government. Haden Edward, one of the Edward brothers received a land grant to settle 800 families, but later the Mexican Government canceled it leading to great disputes.

    Mier Y Teran Report

    In 1827 president Guadalupe Rivera named General Manuel De Mier y Teran to lead a scientific and boundary into Texas. In his report he recommended Mexico to take better control over Texas because he felt like United States was gaining more and more control.
  • Guerrero Decree

    Guerrero Decree
    The law which destroyed slavery in Mexico, but the Texans felt insecure about the law. They would later change the law so that Texas was an exception, but they still felt weird.
  • Law of April 6 1830

    This law was supposed to limit US immigration, but the Texans were really disturbed by this and it helped lead to the Texas Revolution

    Juan Davis Bradburn came up to Galveston Bay with orders to establish a garrison and a town, but led to conflicts.

    signed by settlers during the Anahuac conflict which led to the separation of Texas and Mexico.

    held at San Felipe de Austin after Anahuac Disturbances, the battle of Velasco and the Turtle Bayou Resolution. They were trying to find solutions for the conflicts. But the government didn't address them properly leading to another Convention.

    When Stephen F Austin traveled to Mexico City to discuss about their rights to the government but was imprisoned.
