Cell Theory Assignment

  • Robert Hooke's Discovery

    Robert Hooke's Discovery
Contributed: The name for the individual "rooms" in the specimen, now is better known as cells, thanks to Hooke. This contribution was made by Hooke looking at a section of a cork through an early compound microscope. There was no previous cell theory to base off of and to edit to make better.
  • Leeuwenhoek's Discovery

    Leeuwenhoek's Discovery
Contribution; He was the first to see and describe bacteria, yeast plants, and even the teeming life in a drop of water. He was able make this dicovery by teaching himself a method of developing lenses that gave him magnifications of 270x, and thus creating his own micropscope. His model disproved Hooke's beacuse Leeuwenhook's single lens microscope was able to give magnifications of 270x, while Hooke's was only able to give 50x.
  • Dujardin's Discovery

    Dujardin's Discovery
Contribution: Dujardin proposed that many microscopic organisms are composed of one cell (just like larger organisms) and he was able to see protozoa. He made this discovery by looking through a mircroscope and saw many cells and proposed that many mircroscopic organisms are composed of one cell. This model disproved the previous because he was able to create the point in the cell theory that the cell is the basic unit of life, unlike Leeuwenhoek
  • Dutrochet's Discovery

    Dutrochet's Discovery
Contribution: He stated that the cell is the fundemental unit of organization. Also, he stated that cell aren't just structural unit but a physiological unit. This discovery was made by Dutrochet looking specimens under a mircropscope and seeing that the cell is the basic unit of organization, since its present in every organism. This model disproved the previous one becuase it fully supported and proved the point that the cell is the unit of life, where as Dujardin only proposed this point.
  • Shleiden's Discovery

    Shleiden's Discovery
Contribution: He proposed that all animals are made up of cells. This contribution was made because he studied animal segments under a microscope and saw the there were cells within the specimen. This model disproved the previous because he was the first to propose the point that all living organisms are made up of one or more cells, unlike any previous scientist.
  • Shwann's Discovery

    Shwann's Discovery
Contribution; He stated that not only were animals composed of cells, but also plants were composed of cells. This discovery was made becuause he studied plants under the mircropscope and saw that plants are made of cells. This model disproved the previous because he was able to strengthen the point that all organisms are composed of one or more cells.
  • Virchow's Discovery

    Virchow's Discovery
Contribution: He finalized the cell theory by adding the point that all cells arise from pre-exsisting cells. This discovery was made because he was able to discover binary fission and was able to propose and support the point that all cells arise from pre-exsisting cells. This model disproved the previous becuase he was able to complete the cell theory and actually strengthened Schleiden's while still creating one of his own.
