Charles Darwin (12 February 1809 – 19 April 1882)

  • Charles is born

Charles Darwin was born in England
  • From Cambride to South America

At 22 years old while studying in Cambridge, Charles was invited to an expedition aboard the HMS Beagle to South America.
  • Voyage through South America

From 1831-1835 while in South America, he collected live specimens and fossils. These gave him the first clues about evolution. Fossils that he had gathered were giant creatures that resembled smaller animals, like the armadillo, capybara and sloth. This sparked an idea that this could not have been a coincidence.

  • Observing species at the Gallapagos (Contributions to Philosophy of Science)

When stopped at the Galapagos Islands, Darwin observed different species of animals , especially the giant tortoises. Similar species of tortoises shared unique characteristics depending on which ecosystem they were living on. His work ethic is unmatched. Being a naturalist, Charles is constantly looking for new species and maintains records of characteristics and species of animals he had never been seen before.
  • Return to England

In 1836 Charles returns to England and immediately begins writing and organizing his theories.
  • Begins publishing his theories

Charles begins publishing what he had learned on his voyage and experiments through South America.
  • Theory of Natural Selection is developed

Through many years of gathering irrefutable evidence to support his theories Charles organizes and prepares his ideas to be presented to the world.

  • Joint letter from Charles and Alfred

Charles received a letter from Alfred Russell Wallace explaining that he had made the same conclusion on natural selection as Charles. They agreed to write a joint letter explaining their findings.
  • Published: The origin of species by natural selection

Darwin publishes his book titled "The origin of species by natural selection". In it, he explains his theories. Including, that diversity come from a biological process without any interference from a creator.
  • Charles Darwin Dies (Contributions to Philosophy of Science)

Charles Darwin Dies. His discoveries in the scientific world helped pave the way for free thinking . His thought process was of pure scientific intuition which helped change the way of looking at cemented / antiquated ideas that were both accepted by the scientific community and the majority of society.
  • Contributions to phylosophy of science

He maintained falsifiability on his hypotheses by not falling in love with his theories and constantly searching for evidence. He spent most of his life dedicated to the search for evidence of natural selection found in generations of life forms current and past. Until he found evidence solid enough to back his theories.
