Charles Darwin

  • Birth

    Born in Shrewsbury, England
  • Period: to

    HMS Beagle

During his time on the HMS Beagle was when Darwin truly started collecting data for his book "On the Origin of Species". On this voyage they sailed around South America and Darwin was able to find evidence of his theory. He started by looking at the shells left by animals that he would collect from different animals. He would then study the birds and fossils that he found on different islands and parts of the continent that he would collect for his research.
  • Natural Selection

    Natural Selection
Part of Darwins way of proving his Theory of Evolution is by showing the mechanism of Natural selection. Darwin proved that how we got the species we have today is animals adapting and the ones that didn't adapt would become extinct. The species that would adapt to the environment and hide from predators are more likely to reproduce and pass on those genetics. This is how so many animals that don't look alike can have a common ancestor. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTftyFboC_M

Published the book "On the Origin of Species" that is still considered the foundation for evolutionary biology. Darwin's book gave way to the important theory that every creature has evolved throughout time. Darwin was able to prove that even with how diverse different species are they can have a common decent through the branch of evolution. He proved this by showing the mechanism of natural selection.
