    The power of the reactor at the power plant dropped and the workers knew there was a problem. The workers tried some lat minute efforts to save the reactor, but the worst of all struck. Also, to make things worse, the safety systems weren't on but it could have saved the reactor if they were on. So, at 1:23 a.m, the Chernobyl reactor blew up.

    At the Chernobyl Power Plant near the city of Pripyat, Ukraine, the workers were testing the turbines to see how much they would spin. The turbines spun way too much and the workers had to do some redesigning. The workers tried some more tests, but things couldn't be fixed. This left the reactor unstable and caused problems which led to the blast.

    The Soviet Union starts the evacuation process. First, the town of Pripyat, the area close to Chernobyl, was evacuated within 24 hours. But even otherwise, it was too late as some people were suffering from radiation. Most of the people never came back to Chernobyl and it is said that their belongings are still there. But also, there are some elderly people that came back by breaking the law or just refused to leave .

    After 2 days, Radio Moscow announces that the Chernobyl Power Plant has blown up. But, within 30 minutes, other radio stations in Europe broadcast the news. Now, the event is no longer concealed drom the Soviet Union But the Soviet government didn't know that the radiation spread to other countries and there were more things to come.

    On this day, a Russian show called Vremya says taht 2 people were killed at the blast. The show also says that the reactor was completely destroyed and the citizens have been successfully evacuated. Also, an American satellite was able to get photos of the reactor burning and this is how the US found out.

    Approximately 6 years after the explosion, the Chernobyl museum opens up in Kiev, Ukaine. You can go there to learn more about what happened in the accident through the tour guides and pictures. Most of the info isn't in English, but the pictures can tell the story. Also, the visitor can learn about the heroic acts that the firefighters did and how people were evacuated through the museum's information.

Also, there were discussions that dealt with how we can be prepared for a future event, and info on the safety of radiation and nuclear energy and how it affects the environment.

Ukraine is now ready to allow visitors tour the abandoned and destroyed Chernobyl Power Plant. It can be concluded that by this point, it is safe and most of the radioactivity is gone. The visitors can visit most areas of the plant, but are restricted to certain parts of the damaged reactor.
