CHILD & ADOLESCENCE PROJECT

  • MY BIRTHDAY !!

On January 30, 1986 I was born at 3:34a.m and weighed 7lbs and 3oz. My mother said she was in labor for almost 20 hours but in the end it was all worth it. I was her 3rd child out of 4 and the only girl.

PERSONAL DVLPMNT FROM INFANCY TO ADOLESCENCE

  • INFANCY & THE FIRST 2YRS: BIOSOCIAL

I took my first couple of steps when I was 9 months old. My mother told me it happened at my grandmother's house. I was on the floor and pulled myself up to stand near her sofa, my grandmother then called out to me to come near her and I let go of the sofa and tried to walk towards her with success!! I also already had some baby teeth.
  • INFANCY & THE FIRST 2YRS: COGNITIVE

It was around the time I turned one that I started to say "mama" and "dada." My parents tell me that I could not say anything else until I was two years old, I would babble and make a lot of hand gestures and I understood the meaning of "no!"
  • INFANCY & THE FIRST 2YRS: PSYCHOSOCIAL

My father says that around 2 years of age is when I would throw a huge fit if I did not get what I wanted. It really was the "terrible two's" for me, I did not like to be restricted and was a very active baby. My mother said I also use to cry a lot when she left me with other people so I guess I also had separation anxiety.
  • EARLY CHILDHOOD: BIOSOCIAL

Around 3 years of age I already had all of my baby teeth and did not wet my bed anymore!! My parents say that I ate by myself but could not brush my own teeth. My older brother taught me how to ride a tricycle when I was 3, I was always around my older brothers and playing with them.
  • EARLY CHILDHOOD: COGNITIVE

I learned to write my name when I was 4, my mother taught me how to count and she says that I knew 3 colors and some shapes. My older brother says that I always added -ed to the end of my words, I would say things like "he hurt-ed me."
  • EARLY CHILDHOOD: PSYCHOSOCIAL

On this day my baby brother Kevin was born, I still remember the first day my mother brought him home even though I was only 4yrs old. He laid on the bed near me and I remember trying to protect him from a fly that kept getting on his pamper. I remember feeling a strong sense of connection and love for him. I remember knowing what danger and fear was.
  • MIDDLE CHILDHOOD: BIOSOCIAL

During this time I was in the 2nd grade, I was no longer chubby and I use to do gymnastics with girls from my class. I loved to draw and paint and art was my favorite subject. I learned how to ride a bike without training wheels; my dad took off the training wheels, put me on the bike, pushed & said pedal!
  • MIDDLE CHILDHOOD: COGNITIVE

By the time i was 8 years old and even started third grade my mother taught me multiplication. I remember my dad would sit my brothers and myself down and give us math and words with definitions to study before we could play or watch t.v. I remember hating those times because he had a small blackboard he put on the wall and it reminded me of school.
  • MIDDLE CHILDHOOD: PSYCHOSOCIAL

By 11 years old I liked to hang out with my circle of friends. They were very diverse and only girls. I never felt any peer pressure and was very social. While they were all concerned about their growing body and self conscious, I was not. I did not hit puberty till later on in life.
  • ADOLESCENCE: BIOSOCIAL

During the time I was 14yrs old, I got taller and noticed hair growing in new places. My breasts and hips also got a bit bigger.
  • ADOLESCENCE: COGNITIVE

During my high school years I received a scholarship to pay for my education at a Catholic high school. I did very well and enjoyed english and science classes. I had a part-time job at The Boys & Girls Club and would volunteer for community service at the hospital with my friends.
  • ADOLESCENCE: PSYCHOSOCIAL

When I hit 18yrs old, I had a boyfriend and had much less conflict with my parents and brothers. I was very independent and in to working and making money to buy clothing and pay my cell phone bill. After graduating high school in The Bronx, NY I moved upstate and lost contact with all my old friends. I began to think about my future and college.
