    Segregation illegal in public schools.
    In 1954 the supream court passed a law that made segregation illigal in public schools. This, of course, led to several other incidednts in public schools that year due to this event. This was important because this will eventually lead to intregation in many other schools. This was the first major step torwards intregation in schools around the country.
  • Montgomery bus

    Montgomery bus
    The well known Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat while riding peacefully on the montgomery bus. She later got arrested for not giving up her seat but, this event started a 381 day bus boycott. This was the next big step in the civil rights movement. This was important because it sparked a sense of equality for people Even something as little as not getting up can spark a boycott.
  • Little Rock Nine

    In 1957, a group of nine black students which are also known as little rock nine, were ready to start their high school classes when they were interupted by an angery mob protesting against them attending school. This was a bravery test for little rock nine. This was important because it showed that people who participated in the civil rights movement were not scared for angry mobs or protesters.
  • Greensboro boycott

    Greensboro boycott
    in 1960, four college students instisted on being served lunch at a resturant counter in greensboro, North Carolina. These students were peacfully trying to order some food when all of the sudden their order is refused. This eventually led to a sit in which resulted in the four college students being served their food at last. This is important for the civil rights movement because it showed corage and that if more people do what these kids did then segregation will eventually become minimised.
  • The election of 1960.

    The presidentential election between John F. Kennedy and Richard Nikson took place in 1960. This is an important contribution for the civil rights movemet because if Kennedy hadn't been chosen for president maybe certaint laws in favor of intregation wouldnt have been passed while he was alive. If Nickson was elected president then the civil rights movement could have took a major set back.
  • March on Washigton.

    March on Washigton.
    In 1963, more than 200,00 people attended this peacefull march, in order to recognize that people were not equal. The highlight of this event was Dr. Marten Luther King jr's famous "I have a dream" speech. This was a great leap torwards equality for mankind. This was an important event because it brought everyone courage to stand up for what they belived in.
  • Burmingham church bombing.

    In 1963, at 11:00 a.m people gathered at church for the adult sevice when the church was bombed. This resulted in riots and questioning. Four little african american girls were killed in the prosses of the bombing. In total at least 20 people were injured, and 6 people were dead. This of corse grabed president Kennedy's attention and the day after the bombing he gave an empowering responce to the event. This was a event that brought major attention to the civil rights movement.
  • New York school boycott.

    In 1964, civil rights activists enrolled black students into their school to show that they wanted to move forward in the civil rights movement. In result of this there were people who disagreed with this movemnet and created a boycott. The boycott consisted of 460,000 students who refused to go to school. This boycott lasted for one day. This was an important event because this was a major step towards having intregated schools not just in this school but, schools around the country.
  • Voting rights.

    The voting rights of 1965 allowed African americans to be able to vote without having to take impossible tests to see if they were "qualified" for the right to vote for who they wanted. This was an important contribution to the civil rights movement because it showed that even the government was tired of segregation. It also showed that the government relised, that having impossable tests for only some people to see if they were ratified to vote was unconstitutional.
  • Dr. Martin Luther King. jr assasination.

    Dr. Martin Luther King. jr assasination.
    In 1968, Martin Luther King. jr was assasinated on a hotel balcony for what he belived was right. This event resulted in riots and chaos. This was an inportant event for the civil rights movement because this pushed the Jonson administration to pass civil rights laws in favor of intregation and equality.
