    this was put in place by truman. he had to use his executive power to make this law. made the armed forces completly intagrated. very successful, no riots.

    this was the supreme court case that overturned plessy v ferguson. the court ruled that seperate but equal is legal. gave birth to jim crow laws, or at least made them legal
  • murder of emmett till

    murder of emmett till
    a boy called emmett till is killed by white mob. his only crime was talking to a white girl. his funeral is open casket and shcocks alot of people. this give the black communitiy cause to act.

    montgomery bus boycott

    rosa parks does not get up for a white guy on a bus. rosa gets arrested and then mlk takes notice and encourages a boycott. this boycott worked for one third of the riders of the buses were black.

    SCLC formed

    stands for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. lead by MLK/made by MLK. was one of the most powerful pro black groups. peaceful in protests.

    nashville sit ins

    they are what they sound. black people just sat at lunch counters. white mobs would form and beat blacks. then cops show up and arrest blacks. this worked when jail cells filled.

    freedom rides

    the pro black group core lead a bus tour into the deep south. members of sncc joined in on the ride. the tour ended for most when the bus was firebombed and the occupents were beaten by a white mob. the mombers of core called it quits. members of sncc got on a new bus and kept going.

    in brimingham alabama during a peacful demonstration things got ugly. george wallace the gov. ordered fire hoses and attack dogs to break up the demonstaters. there is a heavy media presence and the nation bears witness to white police brutality.

    this is a summer where there is a big push for an increase in black voter partisipation. in this same summer 3 volenters for this push go missing. 2 are white one is black. just because there are 2 white guys involved this gets national attention. a huge man hunt is made and the bodies are found. the clan is thought to be behind it.

    1964 democratic national convention

    at this convention there were two democratic parties present. one was the traditional democratics the other were the black democratics of mississppi that wanted delegates for representation. Fannie Lou Hamer lead this black party.

    watts riots

    riots that occured in L.A. these riots were mostly fuled by fustration and impatice of black injustice. 40 million in damages are estimated along with 34 deaths and over a thousand injuries.
