    Oliver Brown wanted his daughter to attend a white-only school, he sued the school's Board of Education in order to pressure the School to allow his daughter to attend. However, the case had gone all the way to the Supreme Court, which ruled in favor of Brown.

    In Montgomery, there was a law which ordered that buses be separated by race, which was heavily enforced. However, a woman named Rosa Parks had refused to give her seat over to a white man. Which had prompted her arrest, this incident was pushed to the forefront of American debate.

    The SCLC was a very prominent organization that acted throughout the civil rights movement. The organization was starkly nonviolent. Martin Luther King Jr. was a very significant leader in the organization.
