    Herman Talmadge elected
    Eugene talmadges son was elected as the governer of Georgia in 1948. He was a racist and white supremacist. He helped bring money to0 agricultire, and fought in the Brown VS Board of Education case.

    More georgians would rather remove their children from schools than have the schools intergrated. A girl by the last name of Brown was angry that she had to walk 4 miles just to go to her school while there was an all whites school right next to her house. She sued the schools and the case was taken to court

    Georgias flag was changed and included a confederate flag due to the civil rights movement
  • SNCC

    SNCC
    SNCC was founded to help black students protest in a nonviolent and organized manner. Many blaccks even skipped school to join in the rallies.
  • Sibley commision

    The Sibley Commision was in charge of learning the public view of segreagtion of schools. The general assembly and Legislature were against desegregation, but they wanted to find out excatly what the people thought.
  • First black students at UGA

    First black students at UGA
    Charlayne Hunter and Hamilton holmes were rejeced from UGA because of their race. They sued the school in federal court and were able to finally go to UGA and have sucessful lives. The court ruled that no one could be denied education because of their skin color.
  • Albany movement

    SNCC led a rally in Albany georgia which failed but helped them to become more sucessful. They found out how to better organize their rallies and they gained lots of media attention. Almost 500 people ended up in jail.

    Martin Luther King Jr. led a peaceful march to Washington. While there he gave his famous "I have a dream" speech. MLK was mentored by Benjamin Mays.

    A piece of legislation that stated that no one could be discriminated against because of their gender, race, religion, or culture. This help the blacks being discriminated against in Georgia.
  • Maynad Jackson as mayor

    Maynad Jackson as mayor
    He was the first african american to serve as mayor. He helped to expand the airport terminal in atlanta. He was able to go to Moorehouse college and help to desegregate georgia even more.
