    Brown vs Board of Education was a landmark United States Supreme Court case in which the Court declared state laws establishing separate public schools for black and white students to be unconstitutional. The Warrens Court stated “Separate educational facilities are inherently unequal”. It affected the movement by making segregation of public schools unconstitutional. The South still wouldn't give up segregation easily and it lead to more conflicts over civil rights in the South
  • The Greensboro Sit-ins

    Jibreel Khazan (Ezell Blair Jr), Franklin Eugene McCain, Joseph Alfred McNeil and David Leinil Richmond decided to have lunch in a Woolworth’s cafe in Greensboro, North Carolina. The cafe traditionally segregated whites and blacks. They continued to return to the cafe for five and a half months. The sit ins were organized to raise awareness for segregation. the SNCC liked the idea and repeated it at Woolworth’s across the country. Woolworth’s eventually removed its’ policy of racial segregation.

    Medgar Evers was a civil rights activist and became the first field secretary of NAACP in Mississippi. Because of his position in the NAACP, he was targeted by the people who opposed racial equality. In Jackson, Mississippi, on June 12, 1963 in his driveway, he was shot in the back by Bryon De La Beckwith, founding member of Whites Citizens Council. His murder caused national outrage that increased support for legislation that would be known as the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
