  • First Race Riot after civil right

In southern LA the first real big race riot broke out since the civil rights movement. The reason for the riot is because four white police officers were caught beating a black man (Rodney King). The importance of this riot is that after 2-3 decades of equality, black do not feel equal.

This is an international activist movement that campaigns against violence and systematic racism against black people. The movement started after George Zimmerman was acquittal for the shooting of Trayvon Martin.
  • Wealth

It is statistically proven that more black people are more likely to live in areas of poverty and poorer housing. White people make up 64% of the country's population, yet have 88% of the country's wealth. Compare this to black people who make up roughly 13 percent of the population, yet only make up 2.7% of the country's wealth.
  • Mortgage Rejection

According to statistics the government sponsored enterprise (GSE) denied housing loans to 40% of all African American's applicants, compared to only 11% of whites applicants
  • Education

Minorities are more likely to attend schools that receive less funding, these schools are located in poorer neighborhoods, and the reason blacks are living in these neighborhoods is because they are being denied mortgages. The importance of all of this is that it is a chain reaction.
