    Plessy v Ferguson allowed separate but equal facilities.Civil rights groups set out to challenge racial segregation. Oliver Browns kid was denied access to a white a school so they started the case. It stated that racial segregation of children in public schools violated the humans rights.

    Rosa Parks would not give her seat up to a white man resulting in her getting arrested.
  • Civil Rights Act of 1957

    Civil Rights Act of 1957
    President Eisenhower passed this act.The new act established the Civil Rights Section of the Justice Department.
  • Little Rock, Arkansas Events

    A group of African American students enrolled at Little Rock Central High School. The government ordered the National Guard to protect the students.

    Attack on Freedom Riders
    They were civil rights activists who rode interstate buses into the segregated southern United States in 196. They were organized by the CORE(congress of racial equality. It was made up of mostly African American college aged people but whites joined them as well.
  • James Meredith enrolls at Ole Miss

    James Meredith enrolls at Ole Miss
    When James tried to enroll chaos briefly broke out on the Ole Miss campus, with riots ending in two dead, hundreds wounded and many others arrested. So the government sent out the National Guard to enforce order.

    Medgar Evers was a civil rights activist and field secretary for NAACP. When he was walking to his house he was shot by a white supremacist.

    This march was a political rally for human rights in the United States. The "I Have a Dream" speech was given here by Martin Luther King Jr.

    It was signed into action by Lyndon B. Johnson. It ended segregation in public places and banned employment discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex or national origin.

    This march was made to raise awareness for the difficulty black voters faced. They were met with violent resistance by state and local authorities. The Voting Rights Act was passed a year later.
