    Benjamin Mays As President of Morehouse College
    Benjamin Mays was an African-American who was the president of Morehouse College. He was the teacher of Martin Luther King Jr., and he took part in many groups, suchas the YMCA, and the NAACP. He met with Ghandi on one of his travels to India. He was very succesful and was a role model for all people to follow

    Three Governors Controvesry/ End of White Primary
    In 1946, Eugene Talmadge won the governor election. He was in critical health; however, and wouldnt live to his inauguration in 1947. Because of this three people claimed to be rightful governor: Herman Talmadge, Eugene's son. Melvin Thompson, Eugene's Lieutenant Governor, adn Ellis Arnall, the current governor. In the end Melvin was chosen to be governor until an elction could be held to chose who finished the term which Herman won. African-American could vote now, ending the white primary.

    Brown vs. the Board of education was a famous court case about a black student who wasn't aloud to attend a school, even though it was closer because she was balck.     In 1956 the state changed its flag to represent the Confederate Battle Flag. Many people saw this as offensive, and the Georgia General Assembly, who were opposed to many integration laws, passed the flag through the Assembly with ease.

    The Sibley Commision was a commitee on schools which was created to decide between integration, or closing public schools. Led by John Sibley, it tried to integrate public schools, despite what governor Ernest Vandiver tried to due. Eventualy Vandiver used the Sibley Commisions ideas, and proposed a bill that would start the desegregation of schools in atlanta.

    Albany Movement
    The Albany Movement was a peaceful protest organized by SNCC (Student Non-Violent Coordinating Commitee). The Movement was a failure; however, it taught the protesters valuable information for the future. During the protests police put almost all of the protesters in jail (over 1,000), so there was nobody left to protest.Also, when SNCC left Albany the county commision removed all segregation laws. http://youtu.be/rBrZ4utBse8

    Lester Maddox was a famous Georgia Governor. He placed more African-Americans to government roles than any other governor. He inreased his police force due to fear of riots, and he fought against civil rights. Despite this he was a famous governor who was well liked even among the black population.

    Andrew Young was an African-American mayor of Atlanta who served after the mayorship of Maynard Jackson. He brought billions of dollars of private investment, and he promoted minority owned businesses. He helped raise the economy, and he helped minorities become more succesful.
