    Rosa Parks and the Montgomery Bus Boycotts
    Rosa Parks was arrested and fined for refusing to give up her seat for a white man. People started to boycott the Montgomery public buses the first day of Rosa Parks court hearing. Her hearing ended up lasting 381 days.

  • The Murder of Emmett Till

    The Murder of Emmett Till
    A 14 year old boy, Emmett Till, was accused of flirting with an older white woman. She was 21 and when she told her husband what happened, him and his brother went out to find Emmett.     There were 4 freshmen boys who went to a diner for lunch at Woolworth's. They had sat at the "whites-only" counter and they even refused to leave the building even after they had been denied service.

  • Loving vs. Virginia

    Loving vs. Virginia
    Richard Loving and Mildred Loving, both sentenced to a year in prison because they married each other. Richard was a white man and Mildred was a black woman. Their imprisonment was declared unconstitutional.   • Allan Bakke Case

    Allan Bakke Case
    Allan Bakke was denied twice into a medical school because of his race. They had evidence that his scores were much higher than others who were accepted. He argued that it went against the Civil Rights Act , equal protection and the 14th amendment. The Supreme Court declared it unconstitutional and had him accepted into it. They then issued that race was now to be included in the decision for allowing a student into college. Colleges had to reserve 16 out of 100 seats for the minority.
