    After South Carolina set the example in 1860, many states felt they had to follow in their footsteps and secede as well. Six states in all secede after SC before Fort Sumter.     Fort Sumter
    President Lincoln was fighting to keep the Union together and keep the south part of it. Fort Sumter was a Union Fort on Confederate land. The Union soldiers refused to leave this fort, and Aberaham Lincoln sent the basic survival supplies. The Confederates didn't want them to get any help at all so they shot cannons at them for hours, but the only casualty was a horse. Mark
