    First major land battle of the war. It occurred near Manassas, Virginia. Union forces from Washington, DC totaling 28,450, under the command of General McDowell, attempted to surprise 32,230 Confederate troops. The Union suffered nearly 3,000 casualties. This is the battle that earned "stonewall" Jackson his name.

    End Date: May 4,1862 This battle was held in Richmond after a couple days of waiting Lincoln pushed them to attack. Soon General Lee took command over the southern troops.

    End Date: May 6th Joseph Hooker lands an attack on Lee's weaker flank. Lee and Jackson then come up with one of the most boldest plans during the war and then attacked the Union's right flank which ended up mortally wounding Stonewall Jackson. This battle is know to be Lee's greatest victory.

    Lee surrounds the town of Gettysburg and waits for Meade to arrive. Lee attacks with a heavy blow and the Union faulters but soon regains their ground and pushes back winning several small battle and soon defeating Lee. This is one of the battles he expected to win. 51,000 soliders in total are MIA, dead, or wounded after this battle. This battle is important as it is a main battle in whic amny events took place including the infamous Gettysburg Address.

    End Date: April 1865 Grant's Potomac army and Lee's northern Virginia army clashes for the last time. Grant used lot of tactics in this battle.   • Sherman's March To The Sea

    Sherman's March To The Sea
    End Date: December 1864 General Sherman defeats and ulitmately destroys Atlanta. He then sends out a party of 300 troops on a destructive quest, burning farms and land and digging up railroad tracks to try and end the war as quickly as possible and end the slaughters.
    This event is important as Sherman's tactics were used for several other wars.

    End Date: December 15th General burnside and Lee battled for several days. They burnt down pontoon bridges and battled on captial hill. This battle is important as two major generals were killed during this battle.
