It was a response to Lincoln's election, there was a lot of slaves in the south.P.G.T. Beauregard ordered the surrender of the fort. Maj. Robert Anderson declined to do so.They had a bombardment that lasted 34 hours and nobody was killed. Anderson was forced to negotiate a surrender. This is what launched the american civil war. -
