Kansas-Nebraska Act
Law that allowed states to vote for them to be a free or slave state. Which was caused by Sen. Douglas by wanting to divided the country and using popular sovereignty. -
Dred Scott Decision
All territories were opened up to slavery again. Northern lawmakers weren't able to keep slavery out of the territories. -
John Brown’s Raid on Harpers Ferry
Small group of men which raided Harper's Ferry to seize weapons to start a slave rebellion. John Brown was a northerner who hated slavery which the northerner say him as a hero while the southern saw him as a villain. -
Abraham Lincoln elected president
Elected for President with Hannibal Hamlin and won without any votes from the southern states. Helped pass the Thirteenth Amendment which ended slavery. -
South Carolina secedes
Convention that led to secede from the Union which state's right allowed them to secede. -
Fort Sumter
South states seceded from the union which made them want to go independent. First shot of the civil war were fired here which led to 4 more states to seceded. -

Republic formed and composed the eleven Southern states that seceded from the United States. -

Mini civil war against pro and anti slavery people which are against the North and South. -
Antietam
Robert Lee wanted wanted to carry war towards the Northern states. Also allowed Lee to retreat which led to Lincoln victory and passed the emancipation proclamation. -
Gettysburg
Stopped Southern Army from getting land from North which costed the South to lose millions of slaves. -
Vicksburg
Union gained control of Mississippi river and a split between the confederate side into two. Captured last confederate fortress on the Mississippi River which Ulysses S. Grant surrounded John C. Pemberton cutting off supply's and reinforcements. -
Appomattox Courthouse
Gereral Lee surrender at Appomattox courthouse which led to the Union being save which freed the slaves
