  • Missouri Compromise

    Kept the balance of pro and anti slavery states. By allowing Maine as a free state, Missouri was able to become a pro slavery state. This created tension between the north and south because the north did not like that congress could aid in the expansion of slavery. This becomes an argument over power.
  • Compromise of 1850

    The fugitive slave law was strengthened and it helped the south out. California gained a new state which was in the North. Even though Texas lost a lot of territory they gained 10 million dollars to pay for their debt. In Washington dc, slave trade became prohibited.
  • Fugitive Slave Law

    This law allowed for the capture and retrieval of runaway slaves. Congress passed this law and penalized anyone who aided a runaway slave. This allowed many innocent to be captured by would be bounty hunters and sold into captivity.
  • Dred Scott Supreme Court decision

    This gave people with slaves to move them to the western territory. Dred Scott was a slave that is owner was an army doctor from Illinois.
  • Election of 1860

    President Abraham Lincoln was elected as President. He seemed to be a moderate on slavery. If you stayed on the north with Abraham at first he was going to let you keep your slaves. If you was against him then he would take your soldiers. He was needing an army at the time and he finally just ended slavery completely.
  • Abraham Lincoln

    Abraham Lincoln is known as his leadership role in the Civil War. He led the whole war and made all the decisions which makes him a leader. He also started the war that led to the end of slavery.
  • Battle of Antietam

    This was one of the most important battles ever fought in the Civil War. This was the bloodiest single day battle fought. This battle ended the confederate invasion of Maryland. This Battle led Abraham Lincoln to making the Preliminary Emancipation Proclamation.
  • Battle of Gettysburg

    The battle of Gettysburg was a Victory that stopped General Roberts Lee's Invasion of the North. It was the most bloodiest battles fought in the civil war. It was also one of the largest Battles fought ever. It started new life in the Union and this time was the best chance for Confederacy to get victory.
  • Emancipation Proclamation

    This was was fought only on slavery. They wanted to abolish slaves and make every man/woman thats a slave not one anymore. It freed lots of slaves.
