  • Compromise of 1850

    Compromise of 1850
    South: This compromise both helped and hurt the South. Unfofortunately for them this compromise let California enter as a free state which off balanced the voting system ensuring that the free states would most likely win the elections
    North: The North won a victory in California entering the free states but suffered blows from other parts of this compromise, The fugitive slave act was passed which hurt the North badly but on the bright side slave trade was abolished in the District of Columbia.

    Fugitive Slave Act
    This Act made it a crime to help runaway slaves and allowed officials to arrest those slaves in free areas. Thsi act allowed slave holders to use testomony from white witnesses , but enslaved African Americans could not testify, This Act made the North unhappy, they disagreed with the idea of a trial without a fair jury. Although many took this peacefully some violence did arise. After this act many became Abolists.

    FIRST SOUTHERN STATE LEAVES UNION
    South: Although Lincoln promised not to change Slavry in the South the idea that slavery could not expand angered many southerners. Their complete ecnomy was based off of slave labor and because of this reason and many others the South left the Union.
    North: This made the North very angry Abraham Lincoln said " No State upon its own mere motion can lawfully get out of the Union. . They can only do so against [the] law, and by revolution." The First State to leave the Union was South Carolina,

    LAST SOUTHERN STATE LEAVES UNION

    South: He disagreed with the South leaving the Union and also disagreed with Southern slavery which made the South dislike him greatly. In fact he never even went to campain in the South, won no electrols in the South but still because President which made it impossible to have the Souths support. Although he tried to convince southerners that he did not want war; we can all see how that turned out.
    North: Supported Lincoln. every state in the North voted for Lincoln
  • FORT SUMTER

    FORT SUMTER
    South: Fort Sumter is a Federal Outpost in Charleston, South Caroline and was attacked by Confederate troops.This event was the final componant to start Civil War. This attack started on the 12th but didn't end until the 13th (lasting 34 hours in total).
    North: Fort Sumter surrendered to the Confederate group and last hope of not having war was broken.
  • FIRST BATTLE OF BULL RUN

    FIRST BATTLE OF BULL RUN
    North:The First Battle of Bull Run was the first major battle of the Civil War. In this war the North had many advantages and because of these advantages the North believed this battle would be quick and easy. They were wrong; this battle proved that this war will not be easily won.
    South: The Confederate Army won; the Norths hopes were shattered.
  • BATTLE OF SHILOH

    BATTLE OF SHILOH
    South: The Souths Ecnomy had already taken a huge blow because of the Blcokades but after the Battle of Shiloh the Union army also gained greater control of the Mississippi River which was very hard on the Souths ecnomy.
    North: Won the Battle of Shiloh which helped them advance in the War and lead the the Sige of Vicksburg.
  • BATTLE OF ANTIETAM

    BATTLE OF ANTIETAM
    South: Suffered 13,00 Casualties and lost his war. This stoped the Souths advance towards the North and also the Confederacy lost many troops.This was a major lose for the Confederacy
    North: This was a major victory for the North although their was 12,000 casualties. This helped stop the South going Northwards and gave them even more hope for the end of this war.
  • SIEGE OF VISKSBURG

    SIEGE OF VISKSBURG
    South: This crippled the Souths ecnomy and this was one of the final things to seal the South lose. Vicksburg was sieged by Gneral Grant's troops and lasted until June 4 . This Gvae the Union Complet control over the Mississippi.
    North: Thsi was a very key component to winning this war. Although many soliders also had to suffer from privations Grant's troops definatly advanced towards the win of the Civil War. Also the North finally had control over the Mississippi River.
  • BATTLE OF GETTYSBURG

    BATTLE OF GETTYSBURG
    South: This was a tide turning battle for both the South and the North but gave the North the advantage. In this four day battle the North and South battled between who was winning until the very end. Unfortionatly for the South the North gained the upper hand and won the battle. The South did start this war with the upper hand but in the end the North powers changed this war.
    North: This was one of the most imporant battle for both North and South and luckly they won.
  • SHERMANS TOTAL WAR STRATAGY

    SHERMANS TOTAL WAR STRATAGY
    South: Suffered very badly from this event. Much of their land was completely runined and the ecnomy was extremly hurt. This event hurt so much that this was the last piece to ending the war and the South surendering to the North. Sherman definatly suceeded at making eveyone feel the hardships of war.
    North: Greatly benifited from Shermans idea. This was the final part in winning the war a crushing Southern ecnomy and hope.
  • WADE DAVIS BILL

    WADE DAVIS BILL
    South: Although this bill was meant to help mead the relationship with the North this bill did not pass while Lincoln was in office. This bill made 50% of any states white males swear a loyalty oath.
    North: This bill did not pass while Lincoln was in office, but it made each state ,just like in the South , have 50% of the white males swear a loyalty oath.
  • 13th AMMENDMENT

    13th AMMENDMENT
    South: This ammeadment was hated in most if not all of the South. Their labor was now gone and what their whole economy was based off of was destroyed once slavery was abolished.
    North: This was definatly a plus for the North but mostly for the abolitionist finally slavery was gone which hurt the south but sure did help the North.
  • APPOMATTOX COURTHOUSE

    South: This ended the war which the South lost so this was the final hope of winning losted. Although this helped overall this did not make the South happy.
    North The day General Lee surrendered was a victory for the North. It ended the war and was a victory for the Union!
