  • Northwest Ordnance

    Northwest Ordnance
    The government expanded and the US decided to take more land. More people started moving and living in the area so they became apart of the union fully. It began with the 13 colonies at first. This was very important because it started the Westward Expansion.
  • Louisiana Purchase

    Louisiana Purchase
    It was the first land to be claimed by the US. The president didn't this to get the Mississippi River for usage. It was an added part of westward expansion. The US got this land due to a loophole in the Elastic Clause. This set away for future land acquisition.
  • Missouri Compromise

    Missouri Compromise
    In 1819 they were equal slave and free states. When Missouri wanted to join a mess up the balance. So the compromise was to let Missouri join as a slave state and Maine as a free state.
  • Monroe Doctrine

    Monroe Doctrine
    This document was a warning. To European countries not to mess with South America. It was also used to set future affairs with Latin America. This is important because it sets rules for the future.
  • Nullification Process

    This was basically a crisis about state rights. This rule was to allow states to discard a tax if they felt that it wasn't right for the state. The government passed a high tariff in the state tried to nullify it.
  • Texas Annexation

    Texas declares independence when the Mexicans in control outlaw slavery. Because they wanted to be a slave state. But the US got the Republic of Texas in the midst of it all. This is important because it added more land for the government to own.
  • Oregon Treaty

    Oregon Treaty
    The Spanish US and Britain jointly claim the land. Spain no longer did after a Treaty was signed. So it left the US and Britain fighting over the land. To avoid the war they negotiated a treaty that gave the US the 49th pair of control over that part of the land. It was important because it avoided another war with Britain.

  • Compromise of 1850

    Compromise of 1850
    It introduced popular sovereignty. Admitted California as a state. The slavery issue will now be decided by popular sovereignty. Selling Slaves please wasn't allowed but slavery was in Washington DC. While new fugitive law stated that the North had to turn in runaway slaves.
  • Kansas-Nebraska Act

    Kansas-Nebraska Act
    Stephen Douglas proposed popular sovereignty to see if these states would be a slave state or free. This act was overturned by the Missouri Compromise. Both sides and their people to sway voters.
  • Bloody Kansas

    Bloody Kansas
    The Kansas-Nebraska Act was so controversial that it got violent over which is which. This is why It was called Bloody Kansas but the Republican Party Party came out of all that.
  • Battle of Bull Run

    Even though the Union was winning in the beginning. The Confederacy won this battle and this shocked people who wanted the war to end. Because this would have continued the war. It was also a surprise to everyone with Modern Warfare production. President changed Generals in hopes of helping the union to win. In the end and this is important because it was the first to start of a competition between the two in a battle of who will win
  • Battle of Fort Sumter

    It was when the Confederates fire at the Union. As a result the commander surrender history on April 13th. And was taken to the next day. This is important because it was the start of the long-lasting battle.
  • Battle of Antietam

    This was the single bloodiest day of the war. This was also the First Southern invasion into the North. Even though the Union had more losses the Confederacy retreated. And gave Lincoln the chance to go through with the Emancipation Proclamation. This was important because this was the first battle to promote the Emancipation Proclamation.
  • Emancipation Proclamation

    Lincoln he was afraid that the border states. So he made the Emancipation Proclamation. It was promoted as a 'military measure' against the Confederacy. This is also made it hard for Britain to support the South.
  • Battle of Gettysburg

    Battle of Gettysburg
    General Lee was trying to be sneaky and take some of the Union's land. But the Union already caught on to what they were doing. So Lee had to retreat to Virginia because one-third of his soldiers were either dead or wounded badly. It was the second and last attempt to invade the North.
  • Battle of Vicksburg

    Battle of Vicksburg
    After many attempts to take over the city Grant, his forces seized the town. The president believed that capturing Vicksburg would allow them to win. After days of torture, the Confederacy surrendered. This split the Confederacy into two so the union took control of the Mississippi River. This was important because it was a big turning point for Western theatre.

    Presidential Reconstruction

    It was basically trying to get the southern states back in the union. Not to rebuild but to re-establish them with the rest of the states. It was very important to the government because they need to self for land and economically uses.
  • Gettyburg Address

    Lincoln goes to a battlefield turned Cemetery for the fallen soldiers who lost their lives there. And said a commemorable speech to recognize the battle that they fought there. And also to remind them what happened and the importance of the matter.
  • Sherman's March to Sea

    Sherman's March to Sea
    Sherman was following the total war strategy. In which he led his soldiers to the sea. From Tennessee to Georgia. His main objective was getting the Savannah Georgia port>
  • 13th Amendment passed

    13th Amendment passed
    This Amendment ended slavery. But if the southern states wanted to have a government they had to recognize this amendment. But they passed but Black codes as a way of telling the union that they don't care about the amendment.
  • 14th Amendment passed

    14th Amendment passed
    This amendment was basically saying that there was Birthright citizenship for all men. This state that if you were born in the US no matter black or white you would legally a citizen. This was passed to overturn the Dred Scott decision that stated slaves were property and not citizens.

    Congressional Reconstruction

    It was an attempt to control the states. They wanted to have the states do with a government say and only what the government says. They also wanted to punish the South.
  • 15th Amendment passed

    15th Amendment passed
    This amendment was passed to recognize that all men could vote. Even if you were black or white. Because in the In States it was stated that black people could not vote because they were not literate or citizens.
