    General P.G.T. Beauregard in command of the confederates forces around Charleston harbor open fire on the union garrison holding Fort Sumpter. At 2:30 pm on April 13 major Robert Anderson garrison commander surrendered the fort and was evacuated the next day.

There were 4,878 casualties union 460 killed 1,124 wounded 1,312 missing or captured 2,896 total. For the confederates 387 killed 1,582 wounded 13 missing or captured 1,982 total. The union had 28,450 men. The confederates had 32,230. Result confederate victory.

Confederates started to skirmish union artillery and infintry joined the fray and forced the confederates to retreat to the big hill. Later confederate had reinforcements join the battle and forced the union to retreat result confederate victory.

    The union had 87,000men well the confederates had 45,000. For the union they had 2,108 killed 9,540 wounded 753 missing or captured 12,401 total casualties for the union. For the confederates 1564 killed 7,752 wounded 1,018 missing or captured 10,316 total casualties for the confederates. Commander for the union George B. McClellan for the confederates Robert E. Lee. The result inconclusive.
  • Fredericksburg

    Fredericksburg Falmouth near Fredericksburg. Moved across the Rappah annock under fire. The main generals were General Robert E. Lee Gen. George G. Meade. Union generals C. Feger Jackson and George Bayard and confederate genrals Thomas R. Cobb and Maxey Gregg were killed.
  • Vicksburg

    Warren county, Mississippi. Maj. Gen Ulysses S. Grants armies covered on Vicksburg, investing and untraming a confederate army under Lt. Gen. Pemberton. On July 4 Vicksburg surrendered after a prolonged siege operation. Grants success in the west boosted his reputation, leading ultimately to his appointment as a general -in-Cheif of the union armies.
  • Gettysburg

    Gettysburg took place around the little town of Gettysburg PA. The confederate general was Robert E. Lee awaited the approach of the union General George G. Meades forces. On July 1, the confederates pushed back the union at Barlow Knoll. The next day Lee stricked the union flanks, leading the heavy battle Devils Den, little round top the wheat field, peach orchard, culps hill and east cemetery hill. Result confederate victory there was an estimated 51,000 casualties after Gettysburg.
  • Sherman's March to the sea

    Sherman's March to the sea
    Major General William Tecumseh Sherman was a contradiction embodied. He eliminated Atlantas war making potential and brought sheer destruction to Georgia then offered generous surrender terms. His vision of hard war brought the confederacy to its knees but forestalled thousands of battlefield and civilian deaths. His march ended on December 21 1864.
