    Clara Barton was born on December 25, 1821. On christmas day. Parents are Stephen and Sarah Barton. She is the youngest of 5 children.

    Help tend to the wounded in the Civil war. Following the first battle of bull run she established an agency to distribute supplies to wounded solders.

    Barton was put in charge of the search for the missing men in the war. She met a young solder, Dorence Atwater, who copied the names of the dead in fear the names would never reach the family's. They both traveled to Andersonville to publish the names for the public to see.

    At age 83 Barton resigned as president of the American Red Cross. She was old enough, and has spent her hole life on to the red cross.
