    When the United States entered World War I, Elliott Lee was a recent graduate of Princeton. He was hoping to become an oficer in the Army, but he couldnt because he was simply too tall.

  • Germans Break The Line.

    In May, The Germans broke through the line to the west of us and the 8th Division was hastly pulled out of the lines and sent down to the south side of the marne at the most easterly point of the german penetration from which the lines ran back north around Reims.
  • Bridge Mined

    On this day we were crossing a bridge, That was mined there was a car belonging to the 317th regiment along with a few others that were destroyed.
  • German Attack

    On this day the germans launched their first big attack, attempting to cross the marne. The Germans tried to attack the front line, knowing that the front line was heavily armed, The Germans attempted anyway. The East and West of Elliot High Lee was lit up like fireworks, all night. When it was light enough he got in his tour car back to the bridge, discovering that his ambulance was too damaged too run, the men also absent. He crossed the bridge sprinting for the next post.
  • The Germans Get Through

    On July 17, 1917 if was evident the Germans were breaking the line. Elliot Hugh Lee began setting machien gunners to protect the base. There were German planes all over the air, The Germans obviously owned the air, and werent fired upon. One of Elliots team was wounded in the court yard, someone went to retrieve him, and was captured along with the wounded. Once captured he was forced to carry wounded Germans for several days.
  • Germans Retreat

    The Germans began their retreat, we followed them all the way to charleville.The Germans set charges at every crossroad, mined every field, and destroyed every bridge in order to lose the Americans. In effect of this it was very hard to getr the vehicles accross these craters because of rain, even my tour car had to be pulled out a couple times by men with ropes.
  • Housed In Charleville

    Once the soldiers reached Charleville they were comfortably housed while the wounded american were being treated, There was a hospital not too far from where they were located.
  • The Return Home

    In March, is when the american began their journey home, on a german carrier ship, not too crowded. There was good nurses, and a dancing deck for having fun on the ride home. We were released at Fort Dix. On leave he went to paris for several days en route to officers school.
