  • Atomic Bomb

    Atomic Bomb
    The Americans dropped the only nucular weapon used in history on Hiroshima and Nagasaki on the 6th of august and the 9th. The Americans used the bomb because they wanted to put an end to what they feel like was a long war. Canada was not involved with the dropping of the atomic bomb, however they were in a fight with Japan at the time and helped with the making of the bomb in its early stages.
  • Gouzenko Affair

    Gouzenko Affair
    Russia was spying on canada, they thought this was because they wanted to find out about atomic bombs, 18 people were arreseted and 8 kept on spying. This was the first time that Canada was being watched, this started war with Russia.
  • Formation of the United Nations

    Formation of the United Nations
    The United Nations was made for peace keeping efforts and to help countries during natural disasters. The UN had 5 permanent memebers, USSR, USA China, France, Britan and ten other nations that were on 2 year terms.
  • Formation of NATO

    Formation of NATO
    The North Atlantic Treaty Organization was created by the US and Europe to provide security against the Soviet Union. NATO has been a cornerstone of Canadia security and defense policy.
  • Korean War

    Korean War
    The Korean War started on june 25th 1950 and ended on 27th of july 1953. This started from the division of Korea at the end of world war 2. The UN faught for the south and china faught for the north, this war ended when the armistice was signed, seperating both of the Koreas. Canada had little part in this war.
  • Warsaw Pact

    Warsaw Pact
    The Warsaw Pact was a collective defense treaty amoung eight communist states of Central and Eastern Europe during the cold war. This pact was a group going against Canada and their collective allies.
  • Vietnam War

    Vietnam War
    During the Vieatnam war 3.1 million people died, 2 million were civilians and 1.5 million were soldiers. Canada supported the allies but they never actually faught in this war.
  • Suez Cisis

    Suez Cisis
    This was the first time peace keepers were used during the war and it was a guy named Lesters idea, he earned a noble peace prize for sending them to the suez cannel. Canada stopped the crisis by sending in the peace keepers.
  • Formation of NORAD

    Formation of NORAD
    Canada decided to abandon the avro arrow CF-105 fighter and to join forces with the americans to create NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command). They decided to do this because nucular missles became a reality with the launch of spudnik in 1957 so a new approch of defence was needed.
  • Cuban missile crisis

    Cuban missile crisis
    The cuban missile crisis was a 13 day comfrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union over Soviet ballistic missiles that have been deployed in Cuba. This was shown on tv as it scared alot of people accross the world, it was the closet thing to full scale nucular warfare. Canada was hesitant to join in and this made the presidant of the US upset.

    The Cancellation of the Avro Arrow SALT Treaty
    They canceled this because it cost 1.5 million to make one of them and during the period they kept messing up the process so they just decided to end the program. This is why Canada ended this.
  • Strategic Defense Initiative

    The SDI also known as star was a program that was created with the authority of president Ronald Reagan to develope an anti ballistic missile system, they made this so that the US would be protected from attacts from other countries, their main threat was the Soviet Union.

    Fall of the Berlin wall
    The Berlin wall was established to prevent the massive emigration and defection that marked East Germany and the communist Eastern Bloc during the post-World War II period. When the wall was broken citizens celebrated.
  • Break up of the Soviet union

    Break up of the Soviet union
    The eighth and last leader of the soviet union, Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev, resigned and declared his office extinct, he then handed over the powers and that included control of the soviet. Canada had no part in this.
