Bay of pigs
Cuban exiles tried to invade the bay of pigs in Cuba. This was to be supported by the US Government. This failed terribly and got the exiles captured and put in jail. Their freedom was exchanged for $53m in baby food and medicine. -

Direct and dangerous confrontation between the united states and soviet russia. Russian missiles were being transported to cuba, the US didn’t like this. Some people said to bomb the missiles and destroy them, others said just warn them, and the president decided to quarantine cuba and ask for the missiles to be removed from cuba. Eventually the missiles were removed. -

Insurgencies against the People’s Democratic Party of Afghanistan led the Soviets to invade Afghanistan. The soviets wanted to bolster their own party while taking out any others. This did not work. -

After a conference, the east germany’s ruler said that people could leave to west berlin and west germany “effective immediately.” Many rejoiced.
