From 1917-1963, the soviet union and the U.S. leaders were engaged in a 13 day political war that was fought by their army to try and keep their installation going on their nuclear-armed soviet missiles that was on cuba. On October 4,1957, The soviet union had newer technology than the U.S military and the soviets had launched the first artificial satellite. The soviets had wanted to put their satellites up first so they can have a bigger advantage on the U.S and would be able to pinpoint their location across the world for missile launches. Glastnost/Perestroika
From the mid 1980s to the late 1980s the Soviet union were changing their model on how they were doing things so they can be more open as a Union. The soviets did this just so they can be more successful as a Union and so they can be a stronger organization so they can be able to defend off them self more as a ready for anything group.
