    president John F. Kennedy announced sending the first US man to the moon before the end of the decade. Kennedy felt pressure on catching the United States up and to overtake the Soviet Union in the “space race”. The Bay of Pigs fiasco in mid- April put pressure on Kennedy. Landing an American on the moon, would be hard. The Cold War is the primary contextual lens through which many historians view Kennedy’s speech. The decision took some time before telling the public.

    It was fought between June 5th- 10th and was called the June war. Israel staged an air asault that destroyed 90% of Egypt's air force. That same day Jordan started shelling West Jeuraselum. The UN security council called to stop fire on June 7th. June 9 Israel launched an assault on the fortified Golan Heights, capturing it from Syrian forces after a day of heavy fighting. Syria accepted the cease-fire on June 10.Realtion to ending tensions between Isreael and Egypt.

    Soviet Union had fallen, largely due to the great number of radical reforms the Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev implemented during the six years as the leader of the USSR. The president believed that a better soviet economy was dependent on better relationships with the rest of world. The berlin wall fell in November of 1979 and in that same month the “velvet revolution” of czechoslovakia overthrew the communist. One by one Estonia, Lithuania, and Latvia declared their independence.
