    The Yalta Conference was were Stalin, Rossevelt, and Churchill met up to discuse post WWII. They decided to split Germany into four seperate zones. This is conference was the starting point of the Cold War.

    The iron curtain is a fence that seperated Europe. On the east side of the fence were all of the countries that were connected to the Soviet Union. The fence went for Stettin all the way to Trieste.

    The Marshall Plan was the United States was helping rebuild Europe after WWII. They did this to stop the spread of communism throughout Europe. They rebuilt Europe were war \had been and helped get the economy back to normal.

    Soviet set up a blockade so that the people of Berlin would starve and have to have help from them, so they could control the city. The USA, Britian, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa all flew over Berlin dropping supplies down to the people. It was called the Berlin Airlift they flew almost day and night to supply everyone.

    The Warsaw was all of the communsit counties joined together. It was formed to counter the NATO joining. Soviet also used it to keep control over Central and Eastern Europe.

    U-2 Incident The USSR shot down an American spy plane and captured the piolet. President Esienhower was sentenced to 10 years of jail for espinage. He was released two years later because of a "spy-swap" between the USSR and USA. They swapped Esienhower for a Russian spy.

    The Bay of Pigs was an invasion on Cuba after Castro took over. The plan fail terribly with then surrendering in less than 24 hours. The USA said they had no part in it but they trained 1400 Cuban refuges to fight.

    The goverment of Germany built the Berlin Wall to seperate East Berlin from West Berlin. They didn't want people from West Berlin to mix with the people from East Berlin. It stood there seperating the communist side or the East side of Berlin with the noncommunist side or West Berlin.

    The Cuban MIssle Crisis was the highest point of actual war between the two power houses. It would have been an all out nuclear war between USSR and the USA. The only reason it didn't happen id becasue Kennedy came to an agreement with the Soviets leader.

    The USSR, USA, and Great Britian signed the NUclear Test-Ban Treaty. IT made it ilegal to test nuclear weapons in space, the atmosphere, and underwater. This was a big first step in controling Nuclear weapons.

    The Cold War was coming to a close so the comunism countrywere letting up. The Berlin Wall was taken down at midnight and the sides of the vity were joined together. 2 million people flooded the walls with hammers and picks knocking it down.

    THe USSR broke apart after most of he countries declared there independence. They all left because of the reforms the Soviet president had made during six years. On the 26th the USSR handed over the nuclear weapons to NATO.
