  • Potsdam Conference

    Potsdam Conference
    The three major leaders involving Joseph Stalin, Winston Churchill, later replaced by Clement Attlee, and Harry Truman all met in Potsdam, Germany to discuss the terms and needs for the end of World War II. This meeting resulted in the surrender of Germany May 8, 1945 and the worry of the postwar reconstruction in the European area. This meeting also was called because of the lack of a common enemy in Europe making the discussion and end-war agreements, difficult to come upon.
  • United Nations

    This is an intergovernmental organization used to produce help against global problems, human crisis, conflict and the availability of weapons. This organizationwas established in 1945, as a replacement of the League of Nations.
  • Marshall Plan

    Marshall Plan
    The Marshall Plan was suggested in the spring of 1947 by Secretary of State, George Marshall. This act was used to give American help to Western European countries. Over $13 billion worth of supplies and necessities were given to Western Europe. The act became official by Congress after the Communists tookover Czechoslovakia.

    Truman Doctrine
    This was act stating the United States should give support to the countries and the people that were being threatened by the Soviets and their communist acts. In 1947, President Truman gave a speech to Congress asking for help and support for the Greece and Turkey countries; this was seen as a way of to a new war, a Cold War in fact.

    The Cold War was all about the military and political differences and challenges that came after World War II, between the United States and the Soviet Union. The word "cold" was used in the name because it was meant to show that there was no nationwide fighting or war that was just between two countries. This Cold War split up the alliance with Nazi Germany, causing the USSR and the US with two extreme, intense and different economic and political views.

    U.S, British and Soviet militaries were divided and controlled by Germany. Berlin was as well divided into occupation zones located closely inside Soviet controlled Eastern Germany.
  • NATO

    NATO
    The NATO, also known as the 'North Atlantic Treaty Organization' or 'North Atlantic Alliance', is an intergovernmental military truce (basically) formed on the North Atlantic Treaty. The North Atlantic Treaty was signed April 4, 1949. This organization used a system, member states agreed to mutual defense in case of an attack by anyone. Fun Fact: The 9/11 attacks in the United States caused NATO to use its defensive feature for the first time.
  • Warsaw Pact

    Warsaw Pact
    This 'Pact' was a defense treaty with the Soviet Union and seven Soviet satellite states in Central and Eastern Europe. The 'Pact' was also combined with other Bloc members' armies where Soviet officers and security agents worked under the control of a blended Soviet command system.
