Its first chairman, Martin Dies, set the pattern for its anti-Communist investigations. It affected the Cold War because it led to communists becoming uncovered and the scare of communism rising.

    The GI Bill provided benefits for WWI veterans, after the uprising of opinions that came from the veterans when they weren't getting benefits. This reduced the tensions that were apparent within the veterans returning from war.

    The National Security Act was the major reconstruction of the US government's military and intelligence agencies. This reduced tensions to the US.
  • Truman Doctrine

    "The Truman Doctrine was an American foreign policy created to counter Soviet geopolitical spread during the Cold War." This event lead to large tensions being created due to the US creating a policy strictly against the SU.
  • Marshall Plan

    The Marshall Plan was an American initiative to aid Western Europe, doing so the United States ended up giving over $12 billion to help re-build "war torn Europe." Doing so released any tensions between Western Europe and the US.

    The Warsaw Pact was the treaty between Albania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and the Soviet Union, which was signed in Poland. This pact was a decrease in tensions in the European areas but there were still un-resolved tensions in the US.

    This U-2 incident occurred during the Cold War on 1 May 1960, when a United States U-2 spy plane was shot down while in Soviet airspace. Doing so this raised tensions between the SU and US.

    The Bay of Pigs Invasion was a failed military invasion of Cuba, this lead to high tensions in the Cold War.

    The Berlin Wall was a barrier that divided Berlin, this lead to a large increase in tensions since it was built as a symbolism of communism and it's power.

    This event was the discovery of missiles being kept in Cuba by the SU, this lead to a extreme increase in tensions with the US in fear that the missiles would possibly be used in ware fare.

    This was the ban of on-ground nuclear bomb testing signed by JFK, this lead to the testing of bombs under water.
  • Eisenhower Doctrine

    The Eisenhower Doctrine was the foreign-policy that promised military or economic aid to any Middle Eastern country needing help in resisting communist aggression. This decreased tensions between Middle-East countries and the US but tensions still remained with the US and SU.
