Berlin Airlift
In response to the Soviet blockade to starve the sector of Berlin, the United States sent food, water, and medicine in airlifts. For nearly a year American planes supplied the 2 million people in West Berlin. -

Formed by the United States and 11 Westren European countries to defend against Soviet aggression. -

Formed by the Soviet Union and Communist countries in eastren Europe as a military defense against NATO. -
Vietnam War
Fought between North Vietnam who was supported by the Soviet Union, China, and other communist allies and South Vietnam who was supported by the United States, Philippines and other anti communist allies. The United States feared if North Vietnam won the other countries in South Asia would have to fall into communism. -
Sputnik
Sputnik 1 was a satelite launched by the Soviet Union. The launch of Sputnik 1 and the faliure of its first two Project Vanguard attempts scared the American public. President Dwight D. Eisenhower referred to it as the "Sputnik crisis". -

U.S. President Richard Nixon becomes first U.S. leader to visit communist China. This lead to a thaw in reactions to Cold War relations. -
Berlin Wall Falls
Communist bloc was weakening, but East Germany insisted they just needed change. Exodus points were opened to East Germans who wanted to flee to West. That lead to the fall of the wall. -
