  • United States tests first hydrogen bomb

    The United took action and Detonated the first thermonuclear bomb in the world. The Bomb was set on Eniwetok atoll in the Pacific. The test gave the United States a short-lived advantage in the nuclear arms race with the Soviet Union. Following the successful Soviet detonation of an atomic device in September 1949.
  • Sputnik

    Sputnik was the worlds first artificial satellite that was about the size of a beach ball. It took about ninety-eight minutes to orbit the earth. The launch of sputnik is what commenced the Space Race between the U.S and USSR. That wasn't the only thing that was created by it, NASA had its creation because of sputnik as well. The soviet Union caught everyone off guard when they launched for the first time and then once again with sputnik II.

    6 day war

    Relations between Israel and its neighbors never fully normalized after the 1948 Arab–Israeli War. Israel launched a series of preemptive airstrikes against Egyptian airfields and it gave them the lead on air.
  • SALT Treaty

    The SALT Treaty was signed in Moscow by President Nixon and Soviet General Secretary Leonid Brezhnev. The treaty was an agreement between the U.S and the Soviet Union to limit the amount of nuclear missiles in their arsenals.
  • 1972 Basketball Game

    This Olympic Game was the most controversial game in history. The U.S had been undefeated since the game of basketball had begun. All of that changed once this game took place, because the soviets won by just one point. The U.S had a 63-0 record, so they were favored to win the game.
  • US Envades Grenada

    The Situation with Grenada had been a concern to the U.S since they had begun to develop some relations with Cuba. Citing the danger to the U.S. citizens in Grenada, Reagan ordered nearly 2,000 U.S. troops into the island, where they soon found themselves facing opposition from Grenadan armed forces and groups of Cuban military engineers.
